There are many different types of spectacle lenses available today to suit all types of prescriptions. We use only the best quality lenses to suit your personal needs. It is pointless having great lenses if they do not suit your lifestyle and needs. We pride ourselves in giving you the best advice on the type of lenses to suit your individual requirements.

Spectacle lenses can be made from different materials. These can be divided into glass and plastic. Glass is not used much today because they are generally heavier and are more likely to break. Most of the lenses we use are manufactured from the latest advanced plastic.

We supply all types of lenses including bifocals and multifocals.

THINNER AND LIGHTER LENSES

These are lenses made from a plastic with a higher refractive index and are known as Hi-index lenses. These lenses are thinner and feel lighter than normal plastic lenses. They look great and feel more comfortable on your nose. No longer is it necessary to have thick heavy glasses.

LENSES THAT CHANGE COLOUR

These lenses are known as Photochromatic lenses and change colour when exposed to sunlight, i.e. they appear almost clear indoors and darken when you go into the sun. They give full protection against UV light.

PRESCRIPTION SUNGLASSES

Prescription sunglasses are wonderful for people needing to wear spectacles to see clearly. With prescription sunglasses you will be able to reduce the glare from the sun and protect your eyes from ultraviolet light that is known to damage eyes.

Polarised Sunglasses

Polarised sunglasses are known to reduce reflected glare much better than standard sunglasses. They give full protection from ultra violet light and feel wonderfully relaxing to the eyes.

Polarised lenses enhance your vision on bright summer days as well as dull overcast winter days. This versatility makes them great for year round wear. Fisherman will enjoy the ability to see through the water with polarised lenses and improve their catch. Skiers will also appreciate the reduced glare and an increased comfort in the snow.

MULTIFOCAL LENSES

Multifocal lenses are used by people who need glasses for reading but want to be able to see in the distance without taking their glasses off. The top portion of the lens is for looking far away. As you look down the lens you look first through the intermediate section, which is good for seeing computer screens, and then through the reading section at the bottom of the lens. There are no lines on these lenses, just a smooth progression up and down the lens. They are very convenient, as you do not need to change glasses all the time. They also look great.

BIFOCAL LENSES

These lenses were the earliest type of lens available for people who did not want to change their glasses for reading. They have a line at the bottom of the lens where the reading section is situated. They do not allow you to focus at an intermediate level like multifocal lenses.

OCCUPATIONAL LENSES

These are great for various tasks such as computer operators. They allow you to view the computer and read close up as well.

Imagine not being able to notice your spectacle lenses. This can be done with a reflection free coating on both surfaces of the lens. It eliminates all reflections from the front and back surface of the lens.

It looks and feels much better. When people look at you, they do not see lights reflecting off your lenses, they just see your eyes as though there were no lenses present. It also feels a lot better, as there are no annoying reflections coming from the back surface of the lens.

It is great for people who work on computers as it reduces the glare for the computer screen. Because the reflection free coating increases light transmission through the lens, vision is sharper, particularly at night.

SPECTACLE FRAMES

Spectacle frames have progressed a lot over recent years. They have become a fashion accessory as well as an optical aid. Lets face it, if you have to wear glasses you might as well feel good and look great.

We have a large selection of the latest fashion spectacle frames to choose from and you will be advised about the frames and spectacle lenses to best suit your needs.

Spectacle frames are made from different materials. There are metal frames, plastic frames and rimless frames.

Some of the latest metal frames are manufactured from Titanium, which is one of the lightest and strongest metals available. It is also hypoallergenic, so people who have had allergies to metal frames in the past need not worry. Another metal used today in some frames is stainless steel, also hypoallergenic.

Current plastic frames allow you to have a splash of colour and can brighten anyone's face as well as being very light and comfortable.

For the ultimate in lightness and comfort on your nose, consider rimless frames. Some of the newest styles are manufactured from titanium and weigh less than 3 grams.

Spectacle frames are now designed as a fashion accessory as well as an optical aid. For many people they are an expression of personality and style, it is therefore important to ensure you have chosen the right frame to project the image you're after.

When you come to choose your new eyewear our professional staff will be happy to advise you.
